A Winter Walk

A cold and blustery midwinter day.  Skiffs of snow on thin ice.

Dead trees stand in a shallow sediment pond.  Between gusts of wind there is silence.

Steep banks along the high-wall impoundment.

There is an unexpected stark beauty here…

Images and thoughts from an afternoon walk in an old reclaimed strip mine.

    1. I have driven by the Norma Johnson Center for years and never stopped. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that tag on one of your posts and thought we need to go there. Last Sunday afternoon we did and had a nice walk. Thanks for your post! 🙂

      1. We had a nice walk and will return to explore more of it. There were people taking pictures at the barn but we only saw two or three other people on the trails and they were off in the distance. Best wishes for the new year.
