A Little Diversion…Sounds in Ecosystems

Earlier this year I was thinking about some ideas about the acoustical aspects of ecosystems that I had worked on in the past.  I built a little recording system and started a campaign to monitor the late spring, summer, and autumn sounds in our yard this year.  By the time winter rolls around I will have a lot of interesting data to analyze during the cold, dark season.

If you are interested in such things, you can listen to the most recent recording and see the frequency analyses at my other blog, Murmurs from the Earth…Whispers from the Sky

The image above shows a spectrogram-like display of the first few days of August.  This is one of the most interesting times of year with the appearance of the songs of the summer insects.

Photography will continue here at landscapes and other abstractions
